1. Handle the tooth carefully
Pick it up by the crown, the part normally visible in the mouth, rather than the root. If it is dirty, rinse gently with water. Do not scrub it, use soap, or dry it.
2. Keep a permanent tooth moist
If you can gently place a permanent tooth back in its socket, do so without forcing it. Otherwise, put it in milk or a tooth-preservation product. Do not let it dry out. Do not replant a baby tooth.
3. Seek dental care immediately
Contact a dentist right away. The chance of saving the tooth depends in part on how quickly it is treated. Tell the team when the injury happened and whether the tooth is back in the socket or in a container.
