Know the signs

Five signs you may need emergency dental care

If the situation could lead to further dental or medical complications, it counts as a dental emergency. These five issues most commonly represent one.

01
Severe Pain
A sign of infection that may require antibiotics as well as pain relief medication.
02
Accident
An injury to your mouth or jaw should be seen immediately.
03
Lost Tooth
If it was a permanent tooth, there’s a possibility it can be saved if you’re seen in time.
04
Excessive Bleeding
This may be due to gum disease, an accident, or any number of other causes.
05
Pus or Infection
Known as a periodontal or periapical abscess — this type of infection can spread if ignored.
When in doubt, call — (914) 713-2424, option 4 after hours.
01
Severe Toothache
Diagnose the cause, provide immediate pain relief, start treatment same day.
Toothache treatment

A severe toothache can be caused by infection, a crack, an abscess, or nerve exposure. We take an X-ray or CT scan to identify the source, provide immediate pain relief, and begin treatment the same day — whether that means starting a root canal, draining an abscess, or prescribing antibiotics. The goal is to get you out of pain before you leave.

02
Broken or Knocked-Out Tooth
Time-sensitive — re-implantation possible within 30 minutes, temporary restoration same visit.
Broken tooth treatment

A knocked-out tooth can often be re-implanted if you arrive within 30 minutes. Keep the tooth moist — in milk or between your cheek and gum — and come in immediately. For broken teeth, we stabilize the remaining structure with a temporary restoration the same visit and plan definitive treatment (crown, veneer, or bonding) based on the extent of damage.

03
Lost Crown or Filling
Re-cement or replace, temporary fix if permanent repair needs lab work.
Lost crown repair

If a crown or filling falls out, the exposed tooth is vulnerable to further damage and sensitivity. Bring the crown with you if you still have it — in many cases it can be re-cemented the same day. If the crown no longer fits or the tooth underneath has decayed further, we place a temporary restoration and schedule the permanent one. Our in-house lab can often fabricate a new crown quickly.

04
Swelling or Abscess
Drainage, antibiotics, pain management, follow-up plan.
Abscess treatment

Facial swelling or a dental abscess requires prompt attention — infection can spread. We drain the abscess, prescribe antibiotics, and manage pain immediately. A follow-up plan is established for definitive treatment, which may include a root canal, extraction, or both depending on the tooth and the extent of infection.

Broken Denture or Appliance
In-house lab can often repair same day.
Denture repair

A cracked denture, broken clasp, or damaged retainer can leave you unable to eat or speak comfortably. Bring the broken pieces in — our in-house lab can often repair dentures, partials, and appliances the same day. If the denture is beyond repair, we take impressions for a replacement and provide a temporary solution while the new one is fabricated.
